CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF AUSABLE
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE AUSABLE CHARTER TOWNSHIP ZONING ORDINANCE
THE CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF AUSABLE ORDAINS that the AuSable Charter Township Zoning Ordinance, as amended, be further amended as follows:
I. The definition of “kennel” contained in Article 2 (“Definitions”), Section 2.02, Subsection 3, of the AuSable Charter Township Zoning Ordinance is revised to read as follows:
Kennel. A lot or premises on which three (3) or more dogs, cats, and/or other domestic animals are bred, boarded, trained, or sold for compensation.
II. The following definition of “pet services facility” shall be added to Article 2 (“Definitions”), Section 2.02, Subsection 4, of the AuSable Charter Township Zoning Ordinance:
Pet Services Facility. A lot or premises on which dogs, cats, or other domestic animals are groomed for compensation.
III. Article 11 (“Zoning Districts”), Section 11.00 (“Summary Of Uses Permitted By Zoning District”), of the AuSable Charter Township Zoning Ordinance, is amended to include “Pet Services Facility” in the list of various uses and to show that a pet services facility is allowed as a special land use permitted by special approval in the R-NR zoning district:

IV. Article 11 (“Zoning Districts”), Section 11.01 (“R-NR; Residential – Natural Resources District”), Subsection 3 (“Special Land Uses Permitted By Special Approval”), of the AuSable Charter Township Zoning Ordinance, is amended to add a new subsection M to the list of special land uses permitted by special approval:
M. Pet Services Facility.
V. Article 16 (“Special Land Use Standards”) of the AuSable Charter Township Zoning Ordinance is amended to add a new Section 16.32, to include “Pet Services Facility” as one of the listed special land uses and to describe the provisions and conditions that must be met for the special land use to be approved in whole or conditionally:
Section 16.32 Pet Services Facility
1. Special Performance Standards:
A. Grooming of animals shall only be done within a totally enclosed building. There shall be no storage of animals outside of the building.
B. No more than four (4) animals shall be allowed on the lot or premises at one time, apart from the homeowner’s household pets as allowed under this ordinance.
C. Habitual barking or unusual noise from the pet services facility, which results in a nuisance to neighboring landowners or residents, is prohibited.
D. The premises shall be kept in a clean and sanitary manner to prevent the accumulation of flies, the spread of disease, and offensive odors.
E. Animal odors shall not be detectable beyond the lot lines of the premises.
F. Animals shall be restrained by a leash or by other means when being transported in and out of the building.
G. Animals shall not be kept on the premises overnight, apart from the homeowner’s household pets as allowed under this ordinance.
